Welcome to the Knitted Babes Knit-Along!

This knit-along is for those interested in the knitted and stitched dolls featured in Claire Garland’s book, Knitted Babes, which is coming out simultaneously in the US and the UK in September 2005. The website in the US is at www.knittedbabes.com.

Why have a knit-along for an entire book? The book encourages all knitters—young and old, beginners to advanced—to have fun with their knitting. Although the book provides patterns and “personalities” for five dolls and their wardrobes, each doll will be unique creation because she is handmade. I, for one, would love to see our variations on the dolls—a DD Diva with green hair, a Bunny Bright in biker gear. Please share your creations from the book and send photos of your Babes on their travels and with your friends and family (especially if you are making a Babe for a son or daughter, grandchild, or loved one).

If you're interested in joining, please send me an email (LuckyinKY@earthlink.net). I'll send you an invitation to join this blog, and you can post as much—or as little—as you wish. I hope to see an introduction (who you are, what you'll be doing, and in what materials) and a finished-product post. This knit-along will last indefinitely, so join any time!

Please note: Pictures should be no larger than 425 pixels wide.

Luckyinky, how fortunate to get your book early so you are ahead of the rest of us. I will admit, I knit fairly quickly, although not as fast as one of my mother's friends who knit an entire sweater, using worsted weight yarn, for her young teenage son in an evening. I am thinking about doing several for Christmas presents, including one for which I will have to design clothes, since no medical character exists.

I look forward to receiving the book when it is published. I am hoping to make one each for myself and my daughter and then several for the holidays as gifts. I love to quilt and sew, so it will be fun making the clothes and accessories as well.

I'm excited about making a red-headed alter ego.

When, oh when, is this book due to ship?

OOH! The advantage of working at a lovely yarn shop! Knitted Babes arrived and I got my book, and I've started to knit my first AND second dolls.
