We're at it again...

A second Babe challenge has been extended, this time from me, Marti, to Purl. Included in this challenge packet are: 1 kerchief, two clothes pins, two chop sticks, three fabric remnant strips, embroidery floss, a package of seam binding lace, two decorative tassels, eleven pearly buttons and half of the fake flower petals each. I basically went a huntin' in my stash o' stuff and came up with whatever I had two of. The cost had to remain quite low, since Purl's challenge only cost a dollar. Factoring in the two kerchiefs and the fake petals, I think I maxed out at $1.50. The challenge is therefore underway, though I don't think either of us have made much progress! (I haven't at least). This one may take a little while longer, and as such, no closing date has been set. Stay tuned for the reveal either here, or on my brand new blog. Now that it's been posted, I may be motivated to finish it. Until later...

Hope you enjoy!

It's Katie the Merb

Hey y'all
Here's the latest addition to our growing family of swimmers.
After seeing the original "Merb" - now named Seacher by the 3 year old - my brother in-law decided he had to have one, and now he does. This one is named Kate(Katie) after his fiancee. The doll was modeled on her so its fitting. More merbs to come and I'm rolling around the idea of a series of dolls based on Greek mythology - think Medusa, Harpies, Centaurs.....

TaDa! Clementine's Challenge Ensemble

When I first looked at the assorted pieces for this challenge I immediately thought 'wedding', and then I thought that Marti might be thinking that too, so then I decided on 'fairy princess'. But as you can tell that didn't quite work out, so I suppose I'm back to 'wedding', although I would like to think that this dress would also be appropriate for a fancy night out on the town, perhaps to an opera and dinner at an exlusive five star restaurant. (Hint, hint Joey B.)

Here is what I did use - all the beads, the ribbon, the rosettes and the gold twine. I did not use the paper or the gold wire although I would have used the gold wire for fairy wings had I gone in that direction. The dress has tulle underneath which is why it is kinda puffy and it is hand beaded. When I first envisioned my design it was a two piece, but I think this is better.

If anyone has any suggestions on footwear that doesn't require knitting, please let me know!

I hope you enjoy, please be sure to leave a post and and let me know your thoughts. And while I will obviously win, please be gentle with Marti, she trys. (teeeheee!!!)

The Reveal

Alrighty then, here is what I've come up with as a result of The Challenge! You may remember Delilah. She's a shy, demure kinda girl, not one to be boastful about her appearance, but is very pretty just the same. Using the materials I was given, I used spring and Easter as my inspiration. I took the sequins from the packet along with some beads I had lying around to craft her necklace. Using some scrap quilting fabric and the bodice pieces for one of the dress patterns from the book, I designed the dress and added the ribbon from my materials around the empire waist.

Adding a frill at the hem of the dress, I employed the remaining sequins and beads to add some detail.

I knit the ballet slippers (sorry Purl!!) from some scrap sock yarn and added the rosettes and the gold string from the packet.

Using the bows from the packet, I attached them to some teeny-tiny hair clips that I had already.

Finally, I crafted the paper pieces that were included in the materials into a handbag. I'm really not thrilled with how it turned out, but I was determined to use as many of the materials as I could. However, paper just isn't my medium.

The shawl was just as an added piece since some of the sequins had a hint of pink to them. I made it out of baby yarn and it's oh so soft! Overall, I really got a kick out of this challenge! A lot of fun. I may extend one to Purl in return. Until later...

The Challenge

So here's the deal. Purl sent me a little packet of materials that she picked up at the dollar store. The packet contained a variety of things, such as a piece of ribbon, a few bows, some little rosettes, paper and some other decorative trimmings. She initiated a challenge that we would both take part in. The challenge was to use as many of the materials in the packet, (we both had identical materials) to come up with an outfit for our babes. We gave ourselves two weeks to craft our creations and at the end of the challenge (today) we were to post our pictures here on the blog and let the crafting public decide how we made out. There really is no 'winner' or 'loser' persay, just two different interpretations, although there was much trash talking via email going on as to who would be the ultimate victor. (it's me by the way). So today is posting day, although we don't really have a closing time established I guess. Just thought I would establish the set up before the big reveal. I'm sure you're all waiting with bated breath. But it'll have to wait until later...!

Introducing Poppy!

Meet Poppy! Poppy is my first knitted babe and was made for my daughter. I had a lot of fun knitting her and her clothes up. It was so much fun to be creative and design her look and clothes. It was an easy project, finished in just a few days. I used the patterns from the Knitted Babes book for everything except the skirt. The sassy skirt was an original mommy daughter design. All the pieces, except the sandals, were knit in the round to avoid seaming. Read more about Poppy at my blog.

I've posted the skirt pattern on my blog, so check it out!
