Newbie with question.....

Hello all, I am new to this blog. I just came across it the other day. I bought this book last year and made two dolls one for each of my daughters. The question I have is about the needles. Do you guys knit them with the needles that the book says or did you have to change them? I knit them first without checking my gauge (I have never had a problem before) and came up with two dolls that are smaller than they should be. So now I am doing a gauge with size 3 needles. I just wanted to know if anyone has had issues with the size needles or if it's just me. I am afraid I going to have to frogg it. My first ever. Thanks, Stacey

Stacey, welcome. I have knit 2 dolls myself and I have used 2 different yarns, but have always used my US 2. I knit the first Babe on DPNs but the second on 2 circs. I prefer the in the round 2 circ method! Make sure to post pics of your creations, we love to see all the Babes out there.

I used size 2 straights (is that what pattern called for?). I've made 4 babes, and happy with them all. You're not making seam allowance too big are you? that could make them smaller.

I had an issue with the clothes fitting and had to use a slightly heavier weight of yarn. Anyone else have a problem? Maybe I stuffed it too much...I am talking about the dress specifically.

I've had problems with tension. I've had to go to needles 2 sizes bigger for some patterns.

Lucyblu, I tried to make the dress recently and it turned out way too small. It wouldn't even fit a Barbie doll....I haven't tried it again with larger needles. I will later tho. I have moved on to other projects.

Yes Sheryl, that is what the dress looked like...a barbie dress. I gave it away to someone who was going to make a smaller doll. It was so cute though. I have 4 more all knit up and now need to play with gauge for their dresses so that they fit this time. Right after I finish the other 52 projects I have started. Working in a yarn store is tough!!!
