Hey Babe!

During February break, I've been working on my first Knited Babe. I actually bought the yarn for the body and knit up all of the pieces this summer, but I had put them away until about a week ago. (For all of my posts about my babe on my normal blog, look at this.)
Anyway, now she is all sewn up and has hair and a face. Also, I just decided on her name, Juliet. I've also made her a dress,

a bathing suit,

and more recently, a pair of shoes. There should be more clothes to come.
Her hair is made of an mohair/silk blend. I sewed iit on a little differently too because it's so thin. I wound it around a DVD case then sewed the bundle together in the middle. Then I sewed that on to her head. The eyes are different as well. Because I didn't have any normal felt(other than white), I needle-felted fleece to get the color for the iris' and the lips.
I love all of the babes everyone is making! Adios!

Meet Lily and her big sisters

Meet Lily. (Her wardrobe is not finished yet, but I couldn't wait to get a photo!)

She was fashioned after a photo of a child in a ballet costume, and I'm so glad I had the photo. I would have never created a doll like this without the inspiratation of the photo. It's hard to see, but I stenciled red flowers on the netting to simulate the ones on the real costume. They show up better in real life, than in the photo.

I'm having a hard time intrepreting the pattern for the ballet shoes, so I think I'm just going to improvise a little.

She is to be a gift for the girl she was fashioned from, and a total surprise! Neither the child or the mom knows yet!

These 3 babes were born in December. The two on the left were gifts for nieces for Christmas, and the one on the right lives with me. She likes hanging out by my knitting chair!
Just wanted to share! You can read more about them at my blog, if you like. I just love this blog, and enjoy looking at all the babes! (btw...my 12 yr old wants one of those aliens!! Thats really cute!)

The eyes on all my babes are made from felt, and stitched on with complimentary colors of embroidery floss. I put a colonial knot in the middle for the pupil, then tiny straight stitches around for added interest and to secure the felt. The eyelashes are straight stitches too.
The hair on all my babes are hooked to the head with a crochet hook. I have a tendancy to make them with very full heads of hair, which is hard to style. I tried to make the Lily doll with a hair bun, like the model, but her hair was just too thick. Two of the dolls have hair made from fingering weight yarn, two have worsted weight hair. The Mouths are also felt, secured and embellished with embroidery floss.
The first 3 babes were made entirelly from my stash! For Lily, I had to get more pink yarn for the body, and I had to buy the netting for the tutu. The yarn for her hair and tutu was found at a thrift store. Other than that, she was created from my stash as well. The felt I've been using I got from an estate sale about a year ago. I had bought a whole bag with many colors no longer available on the market that I know of. Perfect for matching eye color to the intended "Mom". There are different shades of green and blue, and a couple shades of pink for the mouths.

Knitted Babes KAL and the new Blogger

Important update for all KAL members: This knitalong is now operated by the new Blogger. I thought I could put it off for a little longer, but when I logged in this morning I had no choice - blogger started the conversion on its own. The positive thing about this is that we'll be able to label our posts in the near future (if I can ever figure it out)! The unfortunate change is that members will be required to convert to a new Blogger account to post entries here. As you can see, some of you have done that already and are listed on the contributors list in the left sidebar.

According to Blogger:

Part of this change involves converting your Blogger account into a Google Account. If you already have a Google Account, log in with your Google Account email address and password when prompted. A confirmation message will appear to indicate success.

If you do not have a Google Account, you will be given the option to create one. Your new Google Account will automatically be linked to your Blogger account.

If you can't yet switch but still want to participate in the KAL, please email me at LuckyinKY AT earthlink DOT net for a new invitation to join the blog on the new version. You can then accept that invitation by logging in to or creating a Google Account to post to our blog.

If you have further questions please read this help page on Blogger.com, titled "What Happens When Team Blogs Switch to the New Version of Blogger?" Thanks for your understanding and I hope the conversion goes smoothly for everyone.

Lucky Inky

I just send a email about switching over to Lucky Inky, who maintains this blog.

Still can't comment ...

But I want to tell Lisa what beautiful Babes and Horse she knit. Just Georgous.

I still get a message that I'm not a member of the Knitted Babe KAL because of the new Blogger seeing me as someone else. Could the Administrator change the comment system so that anyone can comment? This could be done. Is there anyone out there to do this?

Well, Lisa you are really knitting up a storm. I love the clothes too. And I'm dying to knit a couple horses myself. Thanks for showing them to us!

Great job Lisa!

I'd love to be able to comment to the posts. Lisa... your Babe, Horse and Fairy Babe are fantastic! Your Babes are so nicely stitched and detailed. The kids are so lucky to have you make them these special toys. I want a horse and fairy babe! :)

New Blogger

So don't you all think that we should switch to the new Blogger? It's just a shame that the people who have switched already can't comment on this blog anymore. Any opinions?

Hi

Hi everybody, I am new to this blog but I have been following it for some time now, I love all the babes!

I have made four babes and two dream toys so far and wish I could spent more time on them (I have 3 young boys). I don't usually name my dolls, I think the kids I give them to would probably do a better job!

I thought I would post a few picture of my favourites.

My first babe was for a friends new baby, her hair is made with Jo Sharp Soho summer cotton in Tigerlily, it was very hard giving her up. A horse for son no. 2 from Dream Toys ((no name yet) his body is made with Jo Sharp Silkroad Tweed in Magnolia and Night and his mane and tale in Jo Sharp Alpaca Kid Lustre). The most recent is a Fairy babe for my cousins daughter, the wings took forever to sew as I am really more of a knitter.

The babes and most of the clothes are made from Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, I love using it because it is so soft and easy to knit with.

Meet Deaux

deaux2I introduce to you all... Deaux! Pronounced as in, "Doh!" or "Doe, a deer, a female deer." He was summoned. Summoned by a 12 year old boy, and he came. His purposes are unclear. His origins are a haze. His methods of travel a mystery. He communicates inaudibly, yet clearly. When he is present, colours seem brighter, rooms seem larger, questions seemed answered, songs more melodic. Smells are more vivid, and the breezes more vibrant. When he is absent, all lapses into a blur.

For technical notes on his materials and construction, please see my blog. I have been on a babe-making binge lately, but the others are not ready to meet the photographer yet. I also suspect that Deaux will be joined by some family members, or possibly compatriots, in the near future.
