Question re dpns

HiI am a newcomer to this blog, and just bought the book ... I am excited to start! The pictures of your Knitted Babes inspire me.

I noticed that a couple of people said you used dpn. My book has the dolls knit on regular needles; can you give any hints on converting? Also, did you knit tubes for the arms and legs; the book shows the arms and legs as "curled in" strips but I think tubes would be cute. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Hi! Welcome to the obsessive world of knitting babes. :) Glad you could join us!

I knit all my babes "in the round". So instead of two pieces, I just knit one. So the body is, what, 18 stitches across? (I'm at work, can't check). So instead of knitting 18 stitches back and forth, you'd knit 36 stitches in a circle, round and round. I do the shaping for head and neck just as directed in the directions, but twice, front and back, round and round. Does that make any sense?

And for the limbs, I do 4-stitch i-cord. I pick up stitches on the body and just knit i-cord until it's the right length. (If you're not familiar with i-cord, google "icord tutorial" and links will magically appear).

Good luck! And ask lots of questions, people here have knitted plenty of babes.

Thanks so much! That makes perfect sense, and thanks for the tip on the icord (pickups and tutorial). I will post a picture when I get done. I plan to put it in an auction ... I wonder if I can part with her when I finish!??

Thanks again
